Identifying the Puncture
Living While Damaged
In order to be properly unmasked, we must be willing to relinquish our pseudo-credentials of being Healed Without Scars, when in actuality, we are living while damaged. Like a flat tire, we cannot gauge miles away whether or not it has adequate air. In actuality that is how we are sometimes, appearing to function at optimal levels while masking a damaged rim. Unfortunately, it's not until we hear the metal grinding that we are reminded we might be moving, but we have been egregiously punctured forcing us to confront the residuals of its hold.
The Cost of Next Level Processing
As a follower of Christ, do we not have a blood bought right to healing in every area of our lives? I love what Isaiah 53:5 says "But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed" (NLT). Therefore, we will either remain in Moab the “place that does not require change” or ignite the transformative process of change by Grace. You see, it is not enough to make an incision absent allowing the lacerating power of God's Word to have access into the deeply wounded areas of our lives.
So, how costly is the next level of processing the unmasking of bitterness in our lives? Too often we equate the process of progressing to the next level in God as grievous; whether through the severing of a relationship or perhaps the reconditioning of our minds. In actuality, the cost of attainment lies simply within our willingness to change. One evening I remember being in thought about change when the Lord spoke to my heart and said, "Beloved, change is the ability to want a different result." We need to get up on this and live!
For example, in Isaiah 43:18 despite Israel’s unfaithfulness, God remained committed to His people and said “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old” (KJV). Perhaps one of the primary delays for change is due to the unfruitfulness of our perpetually memorializing the past.
In being honest with ourselves, it's true that sometimes change provokes fear; which is stimulated by the absence of control. Absent reasoning and intellectualism real change will always deflect away from the approval of others which is dangerous! You see, although reasoning moves us into the logical it also moves us away from the will of God. In essence, reasoning is dangerous thinking because it implies we’re smart enough to understand the mind of God absent revelation. Really?
In Isaiah 43:19 God promises "a new thing shall spring forth; shall you not know it" (KJV)? For real, the cost of the next level in unmasking bitterness is not that deep! It does however require a willingness to confront, to expose and to de-mask all self-efforts and self-gratifying behaviors absent the resounding approval or rejection of others. Don’t allow the temporal appeasement of others to distract you from your NEW THANG in God! Remember, no one else can weigh the cost of your next level of unmasking in Christ but you; so make the change and silence the cock crowers!
